On my way to Lincoln

I’m super excited because I’m spending five days in one of my favourite cities with my sister and her fiancĆ©e, but I’m also a little sad because my fiancĆ©e can’t join us. I almost feel guilty for leaving him alone but it’s not like he can’t take care of himself. I’ll probably be fine once I get there but I know I’ll miss him like mad.

hatred of disabled people doesn’t have to be blatant:

  • complaining about ā€œpeople who walk slowlyā€
  • calling people with specific dietary restrictions needy/fakers/high-maintenance/etc.
  • insinuating someone isn’t responsible if they’re ā€œliving in their parents’ basementā€/some variation thereof
  • insinuating that students with disabilities are actually ā€œcashing in on special treatmentā€
  • praising what are basically snuff films about disabled characters
  • defending the casting of abled people for disabled roles
  • defending paying us lower wages

*swoons at the accuracy*

also complaining about

  • people who talk slowly
  • people who read slowly/cant read aloud
  • people who take the elevator for only 1 floor (my college had really slow elevators in all the buildings and people would constantly bitch about this and even yell at people for taking the elevator instead of the stairs)
  • people who need you to repeat yourself multiple times before they can understand you

I’ve been guilty of some of these things in the past – the walking slowly comments, the elevator thing. I’m sorry. These are behaviors and thoughts we all need to unlearn.

^^^ This is how to be a good ally, too: by recognizing behaviors that need to be changed, and proactively changing them, and then urging others to do the same.Ā  Thank you.

Reblogged this before but the last comment added on is worth the reblog again.

Just enjoyed a (mostly) gluten-free dinner of stir-fried sweet and sour chicken, homemade fried chips and chopped bacon, with Yeo Rhubarb and Custard yogurt for after. I thoroughly enjoyed it (as did the wonderful fiancee) and even though the sauce had gluten in it, I haven’t bloated!

I’m almost ready for trip to Lincoln tomorrow; I’ve made myself gluten-free pasta with cream cheese and chopped bacon to eat on the train, and I’m bringing some gluten-free jam tarts and rice cakes to snack on if I need to take meds on the go.

Speaking of meds, I’ve got myself a week pill pot with four sections per day, so I can put all the pills I’ll need during my stay in one place without having to bring loads of boxes and bottles with me. I got it from Amazon so if anyone needs one, I’ll post a link later.

Holiday start!

So I’ve been to gym again today. I did mostly leg weights but did a little bit on the cross-trainer as well. I’ve noticed my bad knee doesn’t like the cross-trainer too much though so I might have to give up on that and stick to a brisk walk on the treadmill instead.

I’ve also been cooking again; truffles are chilling in the fridge and just need to be covered in chocolate at some point, and the latest batch of brownies are on the cooling rack. I’ll be taking the brownies with me to Lincoln on Wednesday so I’m not allowing myself to eat any of them until then.

As for my symptoms, my bloating has gone down quite a bit now that I’m taking only four steroids a day, and even though my appetite is quite low at the moment, I’m able to eat normally. I’m sticking to a reduced-gluten diet at the moment so I’m feeling quite a bit better. I did have a little pain in my left side over the weekend but that’s gone now as have the headaches (mostly).

For those interested, the rats are getting new bedding this afternoon so I’ll be having fun trying to get them out of the cage; they won’t let me pick them up yet.
