I had a full blood count done recently and because my iron is so low, they’ve booked me an iron infusion for a couple of weeks time. I’m hoping this won’t be a regular thing but I may have to have them every-so-often because my iron has always been low; I was anaemic all throughout my late teens/early twenties so I wouldn’t be surprised if they did want me to have more in the future.

I’m still disassociating a little but not as much as I was before. I think it was brought on the other night because I was quite tired and also feeling a little down which was mostly due to the news of late as well as my week off being almost over. Oddly, I’ve found that when I’m wearing my glasses, instead of my contact lenses, the DR gets stronger. I think that has to do with the lack of peripheral vision I have when wearing them (I’m practically blind without any correction.).

On another note, I go back to work on Tuesday after having a week off so I could spend time with my sister who came to visit with her fiance. My fiance goes back to work tomorrow so I’ll have the whole flat to myself (aside from the furbabies). I’m thinking a Lord of the Rings marathon is in order. I haven’t watched them in ages so I think it’s about time.

Saw my GI this afternoon. He wants to check my magnesium, potassium and sodium levels but other than that, he’s quite happy with how I’m doing. Unfortunately, the blood test lab is closed now so I’ll have to go back to the hospital tomorrow to have that done. Hopefully, my levels will come back fine.

Three days down and three to go. I’ve been taking my stick with me to work but not using it. Feeling a little tired, as usual, but I’m also a little proud of myself for being able to do the commute without the use of my stick. I guess I’ll see how things go next week without it but I’ll keep it with me just in case.

First week back at work

So I went back to work on Wednesday this week, only for four hour shifts but I’m still really tired. Hopefully, I’ll be less tired as I do more; I’m increasing my hours each week until I’m back up to full-time again which I think is the best way to go. I need to get back into a routine of getting up early and being on my feet for most of the day.

I saw my stoma nurse this afternoon and it seems I’m having a slight reaction to the adhesive of my ostomy bags. This could be to do with it getting much warmer recently so it may be a heat rash being irritated by the adhesive.

Also, she believes the reason I’ve had several bags in a row leak is because the opening of my stoma has shifted from top-centre to top-right so when it does it’s thing, the output is all going onto the same patch of bag which was causing it to corrode away faster, leading to it leaking. In order to combat this, I’m trying new bags. These ones look the same but they have a bump on the back that pushes into my tummy slightly in order to keep my stoma “upright” so when it’s active, the output should be a bit more even. I’m trialling two different types; the other ones has the same bump but has a different adhesive. It feels a little weird at the moment but I’m sure I’ll get used to it. I hope this solves the issues.
